THE KINGSFORD ADVENTURE

Geoff’s Impressions and President’s Perceptions

Well Guinness drinkers, what a great Sunday bus trip was had by all who ventured out. The day started out at theBritish with the perfect breakfast, egg and bacon roll washed down with a couple of pints of pure black gold. Sundays pour was extremely better than on the Tuesday night. All members boarded the bus for our trip to the Kingsford Hotel in Gawler. Once we were on our way we were all handed a beautiful cold can of Guinness supplied by Diageo, many thanks, also a beautiful platter of cold meats, cheese and crackers supplied by our very own Netta. Once you consumed your can you were given another, oh, this was going to be a good day. We all arrived at the Kingsford and were escorted to our own private area where we quite vigour sly settled in to a cold pint of black gold. Our meals were ready at 2pm and the feast was absolutely great not one complaint. We held the traditional raffles with Kay and Netta grabbing everyone, the major winner of a bottle of Scotch was Max James kindly donated by the Kingsford. I must thank our 3 pourers of gold Megan, Fiona and Bec they were the perfect hosts. Our bus driver got us there and back in great fashion and was a great guy cheers.

Come 5.30 it was time to board the bus where on boarding we were given "you got it" another cold can of black gold to get us back to the British for a couple of roadies. All in all it was a magnificent day for all those that chose to attend. I can't wait for our next venture. Till then get a pint of Guinness into you, it’s great for your health.           Geoff

BUT THAT'S ANOTHER STORY:-

Well an expectant and thirsty mob of 14 travellers lined up outside the British at 11am, what a pity they didn't open the doors till 10past. Anyhow once we got through the door it was business as usual and a much improved drop it was too. Then on to the bus and a can or two of Black well and truly helped us on our way to Gawler, not to mention Netta’s gourmet delights. On our arrival it was a pleasant surprise to see Robin Wood already perched at the bar in our little section and on his second pint. We had a small raffle for a GAS cap and one of our old style stubby holders (DON"T know who donated that HA! HA!), it was won by Kaylene. Lunch, well nobody could complain about the food, I had the roast, very nice, but I think the hit of the day were the Lamb and rosemary sausages. Back to the bar where Kaye and Netta were busy selling the tickets for a bottle of scotch (donated by the hotel) and won by a local. We made very good use of the small courtyard area adjacent to the bar and a great deal of Bullshit, songs and jokes were to be heard if you ventured that far. Well back on the bus and a swift return to the British with a couple of detours on the way, another can of Guinness each and a free raffle, yes folks FREE, for three prizes of a four pack of cans, sorry can't seem to remember who won those, but in all a great day and well worth the money. Our thanks to The Kingsford Hotel staff Bec, Megan and Fiona who looked after us on the day, Tony Harnett the licensee for having us and donating the scotch and not to forget our bus driver Dave who was very friendly and helpful and importantly got us all home safe and sound. Oh! I nearly forgot to thank Adam from Diageo for the two cases of cans they were superb, Whatever you do don't miss our next foray to another off the beaten track venue. Cheers Kaz

SCENES FROM A PLEASANT SUNDAY AFTERNOON

(Eat your heart out, Debussy)

These very attractive young ladies looked after us as though we were kings (and queens) and made sure that we wanted for nothing for all the time that we were present in their hotel.. The smiles never left their faces, and it made us all feel very good to have them in our presence. Our pints were never empty, nor were our plates. Thank you ladies, for making our Sunday outing a very successful and pleasant one. Ed.

As you can tell, the GAS guests enjoyed themselves enormously. Everyone praised the lunch and are still talking about it. Also copious quantities of Guinness and enjoyed to the last drop. The only complaints that were heard, were that we were unable to stay longer.. I must say that I personally was thinking along the same lines. We are all looking forward to another excursion to the Kingsford.   Ed.
